To "cross the Rubicon" means reaching a point of no return, a phrase born from a singular act of treason in 49 BC. We trace the steps of Julius Caesar as he led the 13th Legion across a small stream separating Gaul from Italy. By physically stepping over this geographic and legal boundary, he declared war on the Senate and dismantled the Roman Republic.
