The study of women's experiences has long been undervalued within academia. Emerging from the women's liberation movement, Women's and Gender Studies was created to correct a male-centric academic world, yet it continues to fight for legitimacy. This systemic bias, known as the 'feminization penalty,' extends beyond subject matter. It reveals how anything associated with the 'feminine'—from research topics to methodologies—is often treated as less rigorous, impacting scholars' careers and the very nature of what we consider knowledge.
