Is Morality Older Than God?An ancient paradox on the source of our values.
From the show
Living Thought ExperimentsThis classic thought experiment questions the ultimate source of moral authority. Plato's Euthyphro dilemma presents a difficult choice. Is an action good simply because God commands it? If so, morality is arbitrary. Or does God command it because it is *already* good? This implies a standard of goodness that is independent of, and perhaps superior to, a divine being. The paradox forces us to consider where 'good' truly comes from.
