Ever wonder why you're always left with two extra hot dogs? It's a century-old problem stemming from two separate industries with different standards. Hot dogs were traditionally sold by the pound, leading to packs of ten. Meanwhile, commercial bakeries developed pans that efficiently baked buns in groups of eight. With no financial reason to coordinate, the meat packers and bakers created the classic cookout conundrum.
