The Fisherman Who Found a Nuclear BombHow a mistaken eyewitness saved a Cold War disaster.
From the show
It really happenedIn 1966, a US B-52 bomber crashed over Spain, losing four hydrogen bombs. The frantic, 80-day search for one missing H-bomb in the Mediterranean involved the most advanced technology of the time. Yet, the key to finding the weapon wasn't sophisticated sonar or complex calculations. It came from a local fisherman who thought he saw a man with a parachute fall into the sea. The US military only realized he had seen the bomb itself after all the airmen were accounted for.
