Your Shame Is My ShameWhy you cringe at someone else's awkwardness.
From the show
Rewiring Attachment PatternsThat vicarious embarrassment you feel for someone else is a window into your own past. This response, known as second-hand shame, often stems from early life when our sense of self became entangled with a caregiver's. We learn to believe their failures reflect on us, driving us to control or withdraw from them. Understanding this pattern is the first step toward letting others be themselves, and focusing on our own feelings instead.
