When Rewards Backfire

The Orphan Train Movement was a social program with a fatal flaw: it incentivized the exploitation of children. From 1854 to 1929, children from Eastern cities were sent to rural America for a 'better life.' In reality, with little oversight, many were treated not as family but as free labor. This system led to widespread abuse and the loss of identity, revealing the tragic consequences of valuing labor over humanity.
